Before I started my YouTube journey, I worked as a freelance filmmaker, shooting weddings, bar mitzvahs, and local television commercials. It was a challenging period, but it taught me valuable lessons about running a business, adapting to feedback, and the importance of clear communication.
Over the course of five years, I gradually worked my way up, taking on more creatively fulfilling projects with clients I loved. Freelance filmmaking allowed me to travel the country and collaborate with iconic companies like Airbnb, Reebok, and Uber.
While I was grateful for the opportunity to make videos for a living, there was still a burning desire within me to push myself further. That's when I made the decision to take the biggest leap and greatest risk of my career - investing $10,000 of my own money into my first feature-length documentary.
It was a bold move, but it paid off. The experience of creating my own documentary was incredibly rewarding, and it solidified my passion for storytelling. It also opened doors to new opportunities and expanded my horizons as a filmmaker.

Hi everyone, my name is Matt. I hope you're all doing well. Today, I want to share with you a story about pursuing my passion and the unexpected journey it took me on.
It all started with a camera. Now, it wasn't the biggest camera out there, but it was mine. I never really cared about the size of my equipment, as I never saw myself as someone who needed to brag about it. My only hope was that a few thousand people would see my work and I could at least break even. But little did I know, this project would become something much more than I could have ever anticipated.
A Labor of Love
I poured my heart and soul into this project. From early mornings to late nights, I dedicated myself to creating something that was bigger than myself. I lived off peanut butter sandwiches and black coffee, a diet I wouldn't recommend, but it was a small sacrifice for a project I believed in.
As time went on, I invested more and more into this film, even losing a bit of my sanity along the way. But despite the challenges, we managed to finish just before our deadline. At that point, I would have been content with a participation award at a local film festival. Little did I know, something incredible was about to happen.
A Surprising Success
The film took off in ways I never could have imagined. It reached number one on iTunes, trended on Netflix, and was watched by millions of people around the world. It was a mind-blowing experience that opened my eyes to the power of creating something from the comfort of my own bedroom.
This success was a turning point in my life. It gave me the confidence to ask myself a big question: If money wasn't a factor, what would I truly want to do with my life? The answer was clear - I wanted to continue making videos, but on my own terms.
Building an Audience and Finding My Voice
With this newfound determination, I set out to build an audience for myself. Despite having a successful documentary, my online following was minimal, consisting mostly of my Italian family. I knew that if I wanted to tell the stories I was passionate about, I needed to become self-reliant as an online creator.
And so, I started my YouTube channel. In the beginning, I knew it wouldn't be perfect. I was just getting started, and I had a lot to learn. But that didn't stop me. Even though no one was watching, I was having too much fun to give up.
Self-doubt was a constant companion during those early months. It whispered in my ear, telling me that I wasn't good enough and that this endeavor would never work out. But I pushed those doubts aside and kept going.
Looking back, I realize that those first few months were just the beginning of something great. I stumbled, I made mistakes, but I also grew. I found my voice and my style. And slowly but surely, people started to take notice.
So here I am, sharing my story with all of you. It's been a journey of ups and downs, but I wouldn't trade it for anything. I've learned that sometimes you have to take a leap of faith and follow your passion, even when the path is uncertain.

Slowly but surely, I started to see breakthroughs. Overnight, my subscriber count jumped from 120 to 475. A few hundred subscribers turned into a couple thousand. And before I knew it, I had 50,000 subscribers on YouTube.
But it wasn't just about the numbers. Along the way, I had the opportunity to connect with hundreds of other creators who inspired and taught me valuable lessons about finding success on YouTube. Their diverse paths showed me that there is no one-size-fits-all approach.
Over the course of a couple of years, I managed to grow a dedicated audience of over 3 million subscribers. And with that came a sustainable income from my YouTube channel. It was a dream come true.

While the numbers and income were exciting, the best part of my journey was the fulfillment I found in making videos. It wasn't just about scratching a creative itch; it was about creating content that filled my soul and gave me a sense of purpose.
Looking back, I can't help but chuckle at how excited I was over milestones like 300,400 subscribers. But each milestone, no matter how small, was a reminder of the progress I had made and the potential for even greater success.
